AQA GCSE Business 2027: Exam Dates, Topics & Revision Guide
If you’re sitting AQA GCSE Business in 2027, knowing the content is only part of the challenge.
You also need to know what comes up on each paper, how long the exams are, what the different question types expect from you and how to turn your Business knowledge into marks.
This guide covers the AQA GCSE Business 8132 exams for 2027, including Paper 1 and Paper 2 dates, topics, exam structure, question technique and some of the best ways to prepare before May.
When are the AQA GCSE Business exams in 2027?
The AQA GCSE Business exams take place in May 2027.
AQA GCSE Business Paper 1: Wednesday 12 May 2027, PM
AQA GCSE Business Paper 2: Friday 21 May 2027, PM
Both exams are 1 hour 45 minutes long.
Each paper is worth 90 marks and contributes 50% of your final GCSE Business grade.
That means there isn't really a paper you can afford to neglect. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are equally important.
What is on AQA GCSE Business Paper 1 in 2027?
The official title of Paper 1 is:
Influences of operations and HRM on business activity — 8132/1
Paper 1 assesses four areas of the AQA GCSE Business specification:
- Business in the real world
- Influences on business
- Business operations
- Human resources
You'll therefore need a good understanding of topics such as business ownership, stakeholders, location, external influences, production, procurement, quality, customer service, organisational structures, recruitment, training and motivation.
However, learning definitions isn't enough.
A large part of GCSE Business involves taking what you know and applying it to the business in the question.
Preparing for Paper 1?
Once you've worked through the specification and official past papers, practising with genuinely unseen questions can show you whether you can apply your knowledge without already recognising the question.
Our AQA GCSE Business Predicted Paper 1 for 2027 is a complete 90-mark unseen practice paper with a detailed mark scheme, created around the AQA 8132/1 structure and assessment demands.

What is on AQA GCSE Business Paper 2 in 2027?
The official title of Paper 2 is:
Influences of marketing and finance on business activity — 8132/2
Paper 2 assesses:
- Business in the real world
- Influences on business
- Marketing
- Finance
This means the first two areas appear across both papers, while Paper 2 then focuses particularly on marketing and finance.
You should be confident with topics such as market research, segmentation, the marketing mix, pricing, promotion, cash flow, sources of finance, revenue, costs, profit and financial calculations.
Finance is an area where relatively small mistakes can cost straightforward marks, so make sure you can complete the required calculations without relying on your notes.
What does an AQA GCSE Business exam look like?
Paper 1 and Paper 2 follow the same broad structure.
Section A — 20 marks
Section A contains multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
These questions can look straightforward, but don't rush them. Losing several easy marks here makes the longer questions later in the paper much harder to compensate for.
Section B — approximately 34 marks
Section B is based around a business case study or data-response stimulus.
You'll need to use information from the scenario rather than writing completely generic answers.
Section C — approximately 36 marks
Section C contains another business case study or data-response stimulus, followed by a range of questions.
Across the paper, AQA is testing three broad skills:
AO1 — Knowledge and understanding
Can you demonstrate that you understand Business concepts?
AO2 — Application
Can you use those concepts in the specific business context you're given?
AO3 — Analysis and evaluation
Can you explain consequences, build logical arguments, weigh up different factors and reach justified conclusions?
Strong GCSE Business answers usually combine all three rather than treating them separately.
AQA GCSE Business 6-mark questions changed from 2026
This is particularly important for students sitting the exam in 2027.
AQA changed its approach to GCSE Business 6-mark questions from the summer 2026 exams onwards.
Previously, these questions could restrict students to developing their answer around one particular factor. AQA moved away from that approach so students have more opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and reach the higher marks.
So, if you're using older resources, don't assume every piece of old 6-mark advice perfectly reflects the questions you'll face in 2027.
You should still use official past papers — they're extremely valuable — but make sure the exam technique you're learning reflects the current assessment approach.
How do you answer a 6-mark AQA GCSE Business question?
For a 6-marker, don't just make a point and stop.
A stronger answer develops a logical chain.
For example:
Point → Application → Consequence → Further consequence
Imagine a business is considering increasing employee training.
A weak answer might say:
“Training will make employees more productive.”
That's potentially relevant, but it isn't very developed.
A stronger answer would explain how improved employee skills could increase productivity, how that could affect output or unit costs and why that matters to the business in the scenario.
The important thing is that each sentence should move the argument forward.
Ask yourself:
“So what?”
Then explain the next consequence.
How do you answer a 9-mark AQA GCSE Business question?
Nine-mark questions require more than listing advantages and disadvantages.
A strong response should:
- use the business context throughout
- develop the consequences of your points
- consider more than one side where appropriate
- compare the importance of different factors
- reach a supported judgement
The biggest difference between an average answer and a strong one is often application.
If your answer could be copied and pasted into a question about almost any business, it probably isn't applied enough.
Use details from the scenario to make your reasoning specific.
Instead of:
“Advertising could increase sales.”
You might explain why a particular form of advertising would be effective for that business, its customers and its objective.
How do you answer a 12-mark AQA GCSE Business question?
The highest-tariff questions give you the opportunity to demonstrate proper analysis and evaluation.
Don't spend the whole answer trying to remember a complicated essay structure.
Focus on producing a clear argument.
A useful approach is:
1. Develop one side of the argument
Explain the business impact fully.
2. Develop the alternative
Show why another option or factor could be more important.
3. Evaluate
Think about what the answer depends on.
4. Reach a justified conclusion
Actually answer the question.
A strong conclusion shouldn't suddenly introduce a completely new point.
Instead, it should decide which argument is more convincing and explain why.
Phrases such as “it depends” are useful only if you explain exactly what it depends on and why that changes the decision.
How should you revise for AQA GCSE Business in 2027?
The best revision usually combines content revision and exam practice.
Simply reading a revision guide repeatedly can make the material feel familiar without proving that you can actually use it in an exam.
A better process is:
Step 1: Find your knowledge gaps
Go through the specification and identify the areas you genuinely struggle with.
Don't spend most of your revision time repeatedly reviewing the topics you already enjoy.
Step 2: Practise calculations
Business calculations can provide important marks across the papers.
Practise them until you can recognise what calculation is required without needing to search through your notes.
Step 3: Practise individual exam questions
Work on your weaker question types.
If your 9-mark answers are weak, for example, completing another 30 multiple-choice questions probably isn't fixing the real problem.
Step 4: Complete official AQA past papers
Official past papers should be a major part of your revision.
Use them to understand the wording, timing, style and standard expected by AQA.
Complete at least some of them under timed conditions.
Step 5: Move onto unseen exam practice
Eventually, there's a problem with repeatedly using the same past papers:
you start remembering them.
You might recognise the case study, remember a previous answer or already know where you lost marks last time.
That's useful for learning, but it makes it harder to judge how you'd perform when faced with a completely new paper.
This is where an additional unseen practice paper can help.
Should you use predicted papers for AQA GCSE Business?
Predicted papers shouldn't replace official AQA past papers.
They work best alongside them.
A good predicted paper gives you another opportunity to sit a full exam without already knowing the questions.
That makes it useful for testing:
- your timing
- your knowledge gaps
- your calculations
- your ability to apply Business concepts
- your 6, 9 and 12-mark technique
- how you respond when you haven't seen the question before

How to use a GCSE Business predicted paper properly
Don't open the mark scheme while you're completing it.
If you want the paper to genuinely test you, treat it like the real exam.
Give yourself 1 hour 45 minutes, remove your notes and complete the paper from start to finish.
Then mark it.
More importantly, don't just calculate your score and move on.
Separate your mistakes into categories:
Knowledge mistake:
You didn't know the Business content.
Application mistake:
You knew the content but didn't relate it closely enough to the case study.
Analysis mistake:
You made a valid point but didn't develop the consequences.
Evaluation mistake:
Your judgement wasn't properly supported.
Calculation mistake:
You used the wrong formula or made an arithmetic error.
Timing mistake:
You knew what to write but ran out of time.
That tells you what to revise next.
A paper is much more valuable when it changes what you do afterwards.
