How to Master AQA A-Level Business Paper 3 in 2026
AQA A-Level Business Paper 3 is the final exam in the series. It lasts 2 hours, is worth 100 marks, and is based around a single compulsory case study. The case study is unseen until the day of the exam and contains several pieces of data and information about a particular business or market.
You’ll then answer six compulsory questions linked to that case study, ranging from shorter responses to extended essays worth up to 25 marks.
1. Understand the Paper 3 Format
Paper 3 gives you one detailed business case study to work from. The questions will test a range of skills, from calculations and short answers to extended analysis and evaluation. Unlike Paper 1, there are no multiple-choice questions, and unlike Paper 2, you don’t get three smaller case studies — just one large one.
Because the case study is unseen, your revision needs to prepare you for any part of the specification, and you must practise applying theory quickly and effectively to new contexts.
2. Balance the Assessment Objectives
As with the other exams, Paper 3 tests all four AOs:
AO1: Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of business concepts.
AO2: Applying that knowledge directly to the case study.
AO3: Analysing business situations with logical chains of reasoning.
AO4: Evaluating options and reaching justified judgements.
Paper 3 places particular emphasis on application (AO2). Everything you write must be linked to the business in the case study. Generic answers won’t score highly.

When writing extended answers, make sure every point is supported with case evidence, and always link your conclusions back to the business’s objectives, resources, and environment.
Working on essay structure is vital. Use a clear chain of analysis and ensure your evaluations are specific and justified, not vague.
